Sore throat happens to everyone and let’s face it – it is really painful and uncomfortable.

If you are looking for some effective sore throat remedies to reduce the pain, you’ve come to the right place.

People rarely notice how much they swallow until their throat starts hurting. When it does, we feel every little piece and drop of food and beverages passing trough our throat.

In a painful way, of course. That’s what makes it unbearable.

This can end now. So, why not try out some of the easiest, most effective remedies to get rid of that annoying pain?

9 Natural Sore Throat Remedies

Relieving the painful sore throat symptoms is now easier than ever. Did you know that you can actually achieve this with things you probably have in your home right now?

1. Tea and Honey

Honey TeaMy favorite sore throat remedy ever! There is nothing more relaxing than some warm tea and sweet honey inside it.

I am not cheap with this, I use a full tablespoon of honey in my tea!

This is the very first thing I do when I wake up with a sore throat.

Honey has great anti-inflammatory properties and gives me almost instant relief. Plus it is very healthy too.

If you have never tried it before, go for it, you’ll thank me.

2. Salt Water

The old grandma’s recipe for sore throat, of course!

When our grandmas talked about gargling with salt water, they knew what they were talking about. Unlike many other things, this is not another old wives tale.

It is true! When the throat hurts, the mucous membranes are inflamed and in most cases even swollen. Gargling with warm salt water can shrink the swelling and reduce the pain almost instantly.

3. A Hot Toddy

When it comes to remedies for sore throat, you must get informed on how a Hot Toddy is made. This natural remedy for sore throat is a mixture of:

  • Hot ToddyHoney
  • Lemon juice
  • Alcohol (bourbon or whiskey)
  • Hot water

Hot Toddy is also known as a good cold remedy.

Alcohol is not a must in this combination, but can aid you in terms of falling asleep. Honey and lemon are used to soothe the pain in the throat (see above!).

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

When I tell you about this combination, your reaction will probably be “Yuck“. You may not know this, but sometimes things that do not taste very well turn out to be the best remedies.

If you are tired of sore throat pain, be brave and try out this smelly mixture. Apple cider vinegar and garlic kill the bacteria faster than any other sore throat home remedy.

You can mix it with honey to achieve some sweetness. Honey will not only be your source of sweetness in this blend, but is also known to soothe the soreness.

If you find this combination too repulsive, you can always simply suck on some garlic. Sure, you will have to stay in the house for the rest of the day after this, but it is worth it!

5. Marshmallow

You probably thought you are pretty lucky here, but don’t get too exited. I am speaking of the marshmallow root. It is not your favorite tasty treat, but is still a good choice when it comes to sore throat.

This herb is commonly used as a home remedy for sore throat, because in helps soothe and coat mucus membranes.

6. Steam

The solution to every mucus problem is “steam it out”. Steam can easily ease a pain in your throat and help you breathe in cases of congestion (it is also a cold remedy).

And luckily, you don’t have to go to a steam room to get a sore throat relief.

What I do is add eucalyptus oil into a pot of hot water. Then, I lean over the bucket and steam my pain away! You can always use a towel to create a steam tent for your head.

7. Plenty of Fluids

Fluids help you in not only healing your sore throat, but in preventing this from happening too. Drinking plenty of fluids is one of your best sore throat remedies.

It is also true that when you have a sore throat, drinking is not very pleasant and you may tend to avoid drinking at all (which will make the sore throat worse), but you have to force yourself.

Water is the best way to stay hydrated, but you are not only limited to water. Orange juice, tea and warm milk are also an option for you. Even though it is better to consume warm fluids when suffering from sore throat, coffee is still to be avoided.

8. Hydrogen Peroxide

If your mom used hydrogen peroxide on your wounds and cuts as a child, you must hate it as much as I do.

But we all know that moms know best.

Hydrogen peroxide kills off the bacteria and fights the infection. Therefore, it is the perfect home remedy for sore throat, too.

Use 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in warm water. Gargle this potion and spit it out. I find its taste to be quite awful, so I use honey to sweeten it.

9. Humidifier

Last but not least, keeping your throat moist is on of the best sore throat remedies because a dry throat is much more prone to inflammation.

I promise that you will feel a huge difference in the morning when you slept with a humidifier in your bedroom!

Sore throat can be painful and uncomfortable experience, but this does not have to be the case. There are plenty of sore throat remedies you can try in order to get sore throat relief. And they can all be done in the commodity of your own home!
