1. Heat

When I am having my period, which of course is always accompanied by period cramps, I reach for my heating pad.

Heat is known to help the contracting muscles relax, and therefore it provides me with instant menstrual cramps relief.

If you do not have a heating pad, you can soak a towel in some water. Use your microwave to heat it for one minute and place it on the lower abdomen.

Or buy one from Amazon or any online store if you are not sure where to get one. Trust me, you’ll use for other things too.

2. Calcium and Magnesium

Supplementing yourself during the entire month can do wonders for your menstrual cramps. You should aim for regular calcium and magnesium dosages.

Just make sure that you don’t over-consume it, unless you need to get rid of constipation. Too much of these supplements can cause loose stools.

You can always arrange your daily dosage according to your needs.

3. Ginger

Of course I suggest ginger, it almost always works! Whatever pain I’m in, I opt for ginger. This is my wonder herb for every issue, and it is also a natural period cramps remedy.

You can consume ginger in a beverage. How? Grate it and boil it in some water for about five minutes. You can add honey and lemon juice to make it more tasty.

I drink this mixture several times a day when in my period. It really helps!

4. Avoid Coffee

We all love coffee but unfortunately, this is not something you can put in the list of home remedies for period cramps.

The caffeine is a vaso-constrictor, which means it constricts the blood vessels. This tightens the vessels that feed your uterus.

If you are a coffee addict and can get rid of the habit, try avoiding it the week before your period. And during your period, of course.

5. Basil

Basil is rich in caffeic acid, which means it is full of analgesic properties.

Why do you need medications for reducing pain when you can have the best pain reliever right there in your home?

It is healthy and it usually brings some cramp relief.

You could consume it in a beverage. Add basil leaves to a boiling water and drink it when it cools down. I drink it several times to prevent the cramps from happening.

Alternatively, you could crush the leaves and extract their juice. Mix this juice with some water and enjoy your beverage.

6. Cinnamon

One of my top period cramps remedies ever! It is not only pain relieving, but I also enjoy its unique taste.

There are so many alternatives to consume this antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory product. I prefer cinnamon tea, but you could also drink a mixture of cinnamon powder, honey and some warm water.

Aside from being your new menstrual cramps remedy, cinnamon will provide you with calcium, manganese, dietary fiber and iron.

7. Flax seeds

The fatty acids in the flax seeds are known to stabilize progesterone production. Also, this home remedy for period cramps can improve the function of your uterine and treat fertility issues.

It is the uterus’ savior! When you are suffering from period cramps, consume flax seeds daily. One to two tablespoons is enough.

I don’t really like the taste of flax seed on its own, so I sprinkle it over a salad or put it in my daily smoothie. You can also add some in your cereal.

Let’s face it, women will always suffer more than men do. Child birth, periods and whatnot! This is both our punishment and our blessing. But luckily, getting instant cramp relief is just a step away!

You no longer need to suffer from those period cramps. Try out these home remedies for period cramps and start getting some relief today!
