Diet – Natural Remedies for Diarrhea
When food goes through our intestine, our digestive tract soaks up the water. However, there are times when the body cannot get rid of the extra fluid in the stool. This is when we start experiencing diarrhea.
The main goal of home remedies for diarrhea, is to make the stool firmer, and you can achieve this with diet.
The best diet for diarrhea should be low fiber and provide plenty of fluids. Read on.
1. Drink More Water
When the body experiences diarrhea, it loses great amounts of water. Therefore, it is very important to keep replacing the water supplies in your body.
Mix up an electrolyte drink in order to supply the body with the two missing things: water and electrolytes.
The mixture should include half-teaspoon of salt, 4 teaspoons of sugar, 1 liter of water, orange and lemon juice. Or just drink a Gatorade.
2. See-Trough Foods
When diarrhea comes, it is time to eat some “see-trough foods”. You may wonder what I am talking about.
It is quite simple. Eating foods that are see-through include chicken broth and Jell-O. If I had the choice, I would opt for some kind of broth since this option also supplies the body with water and electrolytes.
If you are suffering from diarrhea, stick to this special diet for a few days in order to get diarrhea relief.
Carrots are rich in pectin properties. This is a soluble fiber that works by soaking up excess fluid in the intestine. The more pectin you add into your body, the more it can slow down the stool passage.
Carrots should be consumed when cooked. Cook some carrots and then put them in a blender. Mix this blend with some water into puree and consume the remedy every hour.
Yogurt can be used to restore the good and destroy the bad bacteria in your intestine.
Personally, I start to get relief after two or three yogurts a day. You can also cut up a banana and throw pieces in your yogurt (see below for bananas as natural remedy for diarrhea).
Grating some ginger and mixing it with some honey can help you get diarrhea relief and improve the digestion.
Another way of consuming this healthy home remedy for diarrhea is by drinking ginger tea. This does not only relieve cramps and abdominal pain, but also it helps hydrating your body.
Ginger is often commonly used as a food poisoning remedy.
6. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is another effective remedy for diarrhea because it fights bacteria.
You can consume it in a homemade solution. Add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to a glass of water and drink the solution once or twice a day.
It’s not the best taste, but it helps with diarrhea.
When I previously mentioned bananas, I didn’t say you should add it solely because of its taste. I had a special reason for that. Ripe bananas are actually good for diarrhea because of their pectin content.
Additionally, bananas are high in potassium which is an electrolyte. And as I already said, you will need electrolytes intake if you have diarrhea.
A few ripe bananas a day are a great diarrhea remedy.
8. Chamomile Tea
What better way to get pain relief than tea, right? Chamomile is rich in antispasmodic properties (relaxant) that help you get rid of the abdominal pain. Additionally, it works great with intestinal inflammation.
Another benefit is that you get to drink more water. The more tea you consume, the more you hydrate your body.
9. Pain Rice and Pasta
“Riso in bianco“, or “pasta in bianco” is how they call this home remedy for diarrhea in Italy.
It doesn’t literally mean “white rice” or “white pasta“.
All it means is that you should eat plain rice or plain pasta, with no condiments, no sauces etc. It’s to keep it simple and easier to digest them.
And let’s face it, if you are suffering from diarrhea you are not up to consuming foods that are hard to digest. Or at least you shouldn’t.
You should stir your rice or pasta with some olive oil and that’s it.
This is not all. Rice is also one of the best home remedies for diarrhea because, being a low fiber food, it helps make the stool firmer.
You should not start by eating great amounts of rice. And of course, eat it plain. You are not going to get rid of diarrhea if you decide to spice it up, or add some heavy sauce to it.
Natural home remedies for diarrhea are an absolute must when you are suffering from this condition. Of course, there are diarrhea medicines that can help you relieve dysentery, but you still need to provide the body with sufficient amounts of water and electrolytes.
At the end, diarrhea home remedies are perfect good practices tp complete the treatment.
