Home Remedies for Dandruff – What Can You Do to Make it Go Away?

Are you tired of those terrible little white flakes falling from your head?

Of course you are. No one likes dandruff.

If you are tired of constantly fighting those tiny hair enemies, opt for some of the most effective home remedies for dandruff.

You will be surprised to learn how many dandruff home remedies actually exist. Even more surprised when you see how well they can work for you.

Home Remedies for Dandruff

DandruffDandruff is a very common scalp disorder. It happens as a result of dry/irritated skin or growth of fungus or bacteria on the scalp.

As a person who constantly struggles with dandruff, I can most certainly help you in finding the right dandruff natural remedy.

I’ve tried many of them and finally came up with a list of those who help me the most.

Dandruff Shampoo

This is probably the most commonly used remedy for dandruff. If the shampoo is good (and expensive), it will definitely work for removing dandruff.

Every type of skin reacts differently, so you may have to try out a few shampoos in order to find the right one for you.

Luckily, there are so many dandruff shampoos available that you can try a different one every single day, if you want.

Indian Lilac

I don’t know if you’ve heard of it, but Indian Lilac is a perfect weapon against dandruff.

Its antibacterial and anti fungal properties can help you not only with dandruff, but also with scalp acne, hair loss, and itchy scalp.

This dandruff remedy is to be applied on the hair for two to three times a week. What you can do is boil some neem leaves in water and use the cooled mixture on your hair.

Apple cider vinegar is one of my top home remedies for dandruff.

Why? Because it does not only work on removing dandruff, but it actually prevents it from forming again.

Apple cider vinegar works by restoring the scalp pH balance. This results with inhibiting the yeast growth. Additionally, it can clean clogged pores and follicles and act as  natural hair clarifier.

Another vinegar alternative is white vinegar. I find apple cider to work better for me, but many people say that this is actually their favorite dandruff remedy.

Everyone has vinegar in their homes. Your solution has been so close to you all this time. That’s amazing, isn’t it?

Lemon Juice

The acids in the lemon juice fight the main cause of dandruff – the fungi. Additionally, it can help you with that annoying scalp itching sensation.

You can apply it in two ways.

  • Mix the juice of a lemon in plain yogurt. After applying it to your hair, leave it on for 20 minutes before shampooing it.
  • Massage your scalp with some lemon juice, mixed with a little water. Leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse it out. Do this often.

A pill for dandruff? Yes, this most certainly works. Aspirin contains acid that exfoliates the scalp and therefore, controls dandruff.

But don’t go rushing to take an aspirin. I actually mean using aspirin powder ON your head.

You can crush a couple of aspirins (2 or 3) into a fine powder and mix it with your shampoo or in some vinegar. Use this combination by massaging it into your scalp. A couple of minutes to half an hour should do the job.

Egg Yolks

I don’t expect you to try this. It sounds gross so you would be excused if you pass.My grandma has a solution for everything! It sounded ridiculous to me at first, but she is actually always right.

Dandruff Remedies Egg Yolks
Have you ever tried this natural remedy for dandruff?

But, my grandma has a solution for everything! It sounded ridiculous to me at first, but she is actually always right.

So, I decided to trust her one time and tried applying some mixed yolks on my hair.

Guess what? She was right again!

The only important thing here is to place as much of the yolk to the scalp as possible. After you do that, you can place a plastic bag over the hair. Just make sure it covers it all: the eggs on your hair will not only leak, but can smell too.

You should leave the yolks on your head for an hour before rinsing it off with a shampoo.

Dandruff comes as a result of many things, so it is quite obvious that different home remedies for dandruff can work differently on people.  If you are like me and find dandruff to be extremely annoying, take the time to try out some of the best remedies before taking a shower.

It does not take a lot of time, but it can prove to get rid of dandruff. The only thing you have to do is find out which dandruff natural remedy works best for you!
