If you’re looking to get rid of hemorrhoids, you’re about to find out a series of actions that you can take to reduce the pain and the discomfort given by this quite common disease.
Commonly, with the term hemorrhoids, we mean the inflammatory process that affects the veins around the anus or inside the rectum, and causes them to swollen.

- Watch and improve your diet: eating junk food frequently can promote the inflammation of the hemorrhoids.
- Keep the anal area dry and clean after using the bathroom, otherwise getting rid of hemorrhoids is going to be a very long process.
- Use cotton underwear that is better to prevent irritations.
- Wash the area with cool water.
- Talk to your doctor if you notice blood in your stool. It is not uncommon but make sure it’s not due to other more important diseases.
- Use soft and delicate toilet paper. Use white paper. Sometimes they sell colored toilet paper, but that can irritate and make the area itchy, a typical symptom of hemorrhoids. What I recommend is Charmin!
- Gently push back the veins with your finger to facilitate the healing process. Be careful not to scratch the area with nails or you’ll never get hemorrhoids relief.
- Get a donut seat/cushion, especially if you have to sit for several hours a day because of your job.
- Don’t drink alcohol: it increases the risk of developing hemorrhoids inflammation, and it worsens it if you already suffer from it.
- Sedentary lifestyle: it predisposes to the risk of hemorrhoids.
- Excessive use of laxatives: they can inflame the hemorrhoid plexus of the anal orifice, causing hemorrhoids or worsening the symptoms.
- Anal intercourse: this should be easy to figure.
- Don’t apply cortisone or stuff like that without consulting your doctor.
- Don’t cleanse genital and anal area with “aggressive” soaps.
- Don’t scratch the anal area: hemorrhoids usually cause itching, therefore you might feel the urge to scratch. This can give you immediate hemorrhoid relief, but it can aggravate the situation by causing bleeding and infections.
- Don’t lift heavy weights: excessive stress could worsen the inflammation or even push the veins out.
- Don’t use very cold water to personal hygiene: the resulting spasm of the muscles may cause the “squeezing” of anal hemorrhoid nodules.
- Don’t do sport such as biking or horse riding: suspend these practices until you get rid of hemorrhoids for good.

- Eat yogurt with milk enzymes or probiotics to strengthen the immune system.
- Eat lots of fruits and vegetables, as they are rich in antioxidants (vitamin C and E).
Foods to Avoid
Here is what you should avoid if you want to increase the chances to get rid of hemorrhoids:
- Spicy foods: bell pepper, pepperoni, hot sauces etc.
- Coffee and drinks that contain caffeine.
- Foods rich in salt: they may cause water retention in the body and promote the inflammation of the anal vessels.
- Alcohol and beer.
- Foods hard to digest like fried foods, foods rich in fat etc.
