Natural Constipation Remedies – 11 Tips That Can Save Your Day

Have you ever tried going to school or work while feeling uneasy due to bowel obstruction? Do you often feel uncomfortable because of this?

Constipation remedies are a helpful idea for people who often experience potty problems.

The pain of being constipated makes it difficult for people to enjoy their everyday lives. However, this is a common condition and you should not be embarrassed about it. Talking to someone who can help you solve the problem is always a good idea.

Constipation is a serious matter that must be addressed quickly. Luckily, we are able to do this at the commodity of our homes. There are a lot of simple ways to relieve the constipation symptoms you are experiencing.

Best Natural Constipation Remedies

1. Prune Juice

Prune juice is one of the best constipation remedies to soften the stool and get it out within hours

Prune juice is the classical constipation relief remedy. The juice of this particular fruit can effectively help people with bowel problems. It is considered a natural laxative due to its high levels of sorbitol and fiber contents.

In order to relieve yourself from constipation, drink the prune juice twice a day. One cup of prune juice in the morning and one at night are highly recommended.

When my constipation lasts for more than two days, I drink prune juice three times a day. It usually helps if I drink some water prior to consuming the prune juice.

2. Olive Oil

Another wonder ingredient used as a remedy for constipation is the extra virgin olive oil. This is not a surprise treatment for constipation, isn’t it? Oils are commonly known for their laxative properties.

Olive oil can stimulate the digestive system and regulate the bowel movement. This process of transferring the food around the body is called peristalsis.

Consume olive oil  in the morning (1 tablespoon).  It works best on an empty stomach.

I personally find the plain olive oil difficult to consume. If you wish to flavor the olive oil, you can always use lemon juice. The lemon is not only adding flavor to this remedy, but can also aid with constipation problems.

3. Lemon Juice and Water

I think it is safe enough to say that water is the most potent treatment for any illness. Additionally, it is always free and always available!

The lemon juice has citric acid. This acid helps stimulate our digestive system and is known to flush out the toxins. Additionally, it aids the process of flushing out any foods that aren’t digested by the system.

The mixture of water and lemon juice will help you normalize your bowel movement. Mix 1 lemon juice with warm water and drink it a couple of times a day and you’ve got a great natural remedy for constipation.

4. Coffee

The aroma of coffee sure does awaken the senses, especially in the morning. Caffeine helps stimulate the digestive system.

Coffee has a natural diuretic effect and helps people urinate more frequently. Even though it can help with constipation, you should never take more than 3 cups of coffee in a day.

Drinking too much coffee is not only bad for the body in general but can also cause constipation (which is the opposite result of what you are looking for).

Remember that water normally softens the stools.

5. Foods Rich in Fiber

Fruits and vegetables that are high in fiber content can help relieve constipation symptoms. Grains also are rich in fiber.

These foods are essential in preventing constipation.

Some foods that are rich in fiber are:

  • Foods Rich in FiberBroccoli
  • Rice
  • Beans
  • Berries
  • Apricots
  • Nuts
  • Potatoes
  • Apples, Plums, and Pears

6. Flaxseed Oil

Similarly, flaxseed oil also has high fiber content.

Flaxseed has the ability to coat the intestinal wall. As a result, the bowel movement can be improved.

The effect of the flaxseed oil increases when taken in combination with an orange. Oranges also have fiber in them.

Put the flaxseed oil (1 tablespoon) in a glass of orange juice. Drink it when necessary. The mixture should start working after 5 hours.

7. Probiotics

Lactobacillus is a known bacterial strain commonly used by a famous brand of probiotic drinks.  These probiotic drinks are aimed towards aiding with digestion.

Yogurt is yet another product that is rich in probiotics. You could always take it in the morning as a healthy food alternative or as a snack.

8. Epsom Salt

There are two reasons why Epsom salt is an effective home remedy for constipation. Firs, it can help soften the stool. Second, it is rich in magnesium. Magnesium can help promote bowel muscle contractions.

Dissolve the Epsom salt (2 teaspoons) in water or any fruit juice (1 cup). Consume it immediately after dissolving. If there are still no bowel movement after 4 hours, you may take it again.

When it comes to children, the required dosage is only half a teaspoon.

9. Baking Soda

Baking soda is also an effective home remedy for constipation. Although not a natural home remedy, it is always readily available in our kitchen.

Constipation Remedies Baking SodaBaking soda is an incredibly versatile ingredient that works all the time (you will find it in many other articles on this website). This remedy contains what we call bicarbonate.

Bicarbonate is known to help people pass out the air. And by that, it decreases the pain and the pressure; and neutralizes the stomach’s acidity.

Mix one teaspoon of any brand of baking soda with warm water (1/4 cup).

10. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is one of the world-renowned constipation remedies. This remedy is known to treat a lot of other conditions and illnesses too.

Mix 2-3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with water. This remedy is most effective when consumed in the morning.

11. Exercise

My last advice is, of course, exercise.

If you want to help your peristalsis, start moving around. Taking a walk or jogging for as little as a few minutes a day can make a big difference. The muscle movement can be really helpful in optimizing the body’s way of functioning.

These are just a few of the many known constipation remedies. What do you do for constipation? Is your favorite remedy on the list?
