Most Common Causes of Stomach Pain
Stomach ache can come and go, or remain for a longer period of time. It can also be chronic or short-lived, depending on the stomach pain cause.

When you are feeling severe pain under the ribs on your right side, chances are you have gallstones. This pain can actually radiate to the shoulder or the back, and last for as long as hours.
If you have known someone who had gallstones, you are now aware of how serious their pain really was. In some cases, people even experience vomiting, their skin yellows and becomes itchy, and their body temperature rises.
These so called stones form in the gallbladder and cause swelling. The swelling blocks the duct into the intestine, which in term causes pain.
You can pass gallstones on your own, but there are cases where you may need surgery. If you wish to avoid this from happening, try to avoid fatty meals. Those are the most common cause of gallstones.
2. Food Poisoning
Certain viruses and bacteria can cause stomach ache. You must have heard of the many food poisoning outbreaks, such as that of Salmonella from beef in 2011.
Aside from causing stomach pain, food poisoning can also cause vomiting and diarrhea.
The cases where this is serious, or even fatal, are really rare. But when you have food poisoning, you have to make sure to relieve the pain.
Drinking more fluids is highly recommended when you have consumed viruses or bacteria trough food. Home remedies for diarrhea and vomit are a great idea if you are experiencing more complications.
3. Ovulation and Menstruation Pain
If you are a woman, life is a bit more painful and complicated. Every woman feels stomach ache at a certain moment each month, usually because of the menstrual period. These pains are called menstrual cramps.
Furthermore, a woman can feel sharp pain, or a dull twinge in the lower abdomen, right behind the hip bone. This is what sometimes happens when the ovary releases an egg i.e in ovulation period.
There are certain natural remedies for menstrual cramps you can try out to relieve the pain. If the pain persists for a period longer than 48 hours, you should definitely visit the doctor.
We are all familiarized with the bloating and cramps that are caused by constipation. In some cases, this is accompanied with loss of appetite and nausea.

5. Lactose Intolerance
Some people have troubles digesting the lactose. If this is the case with you, you should skip dairy products until your symptoms go away.
This cause of stomach pain is characterized by aching and bloating, mostly after consuming dairy products such as milk.

6. Gastritis and Peptic Ulcer
Stomach inflammation is one of the most common causes of stomach pain. It is usually caused by medication overuse, more specifically by anti-inflammatory drugs.
Aside from the gastritis, the anti-inflammatory medications can also cause peptic ulcer. This is a sore found in the stomach lining.
Both these causes of stomach pain are characterized by pain in the upper abdomen. This pain usually worsens when the stomach is empty.
7. Irritable Bowel Syndrome
If you are feeling abdominal discomfort and pain, accompanied by constipation or diarrhea, you may suffer from irritable bowel syndrome.
There are certain food that can cause stomach ache in the cases of IBS, which may also result in symptoms of urgently needing to use the bathroom, gas and stomach bloating (see above).
When the pancreas is inflamed, you may feel burning pain in the abdomen. The main cause of pancreatitis, which in result causes stomach ache, is alcohol.
In many cases, this condition requires the patient to be hospitalized.
9. Acid Reflux and GERD
Gastroesophageal reflux disease can also cause stomach pain. The pain is felt in the lower chest and the upper stomach and is called heartburn.

Acid reflux is the non-chronic version of GERD. These both can be caused by over consuming bad food. Luckily, there are many home remedies for acid reflux.
There are plenty of causes of stomach pain, so it is no wonder that we can all experience it so often in our lives. In some cases, it is a typical stomach ache, due to digestion, but sometimes it can be more serious.
